Too Black, too strong (style).
While I did post the video of AW putting the shoe to Kofi last night,I didn't go into the whole "like Kobe Bryant at a hotel room in Colorado ... he's unstoppable" line regarding Titus O'Neil that he threw out during last night's Raw, mainly because I wanted to see how quickly (if at all) he and the WWE would apologize. It's referencing the 2003 rape case Kobe went through for smashing that chick in his hotel room, and no matter if it's nine years old, it was in poor taste - and definitely something I'm glad my own five year old didn't have to hear and then ask me questions about afterwards. AW is said to have immediately apologized to both the McMahnon family and wrestlers backstage (as well as on twitter), and promised something like this wouldn't happen again. TMZ has since picked up on it, and WWE immediately commented on "taking the appropriate action in the matter", whatever that means. Hopefully it doesn't result in AW's termination, although with the fire at the arena before Raw (due to some kind of issue with the Titantron) and this incident, the WWE picked up the kind of media coverage they'd rather not receive. And in the second week of three hour Raws, in an already hectic backstage area, none of this helps. How do things like this happen, though?
Without official word, sources say that Kharma is no longer with the WWE. It ends up coming down to Creative having nothing to give her in terms of a push/storyline: per the F4W newsletter, "she was scheduled to come back a few months ago and destroy both Bellas to win the Women's title, but when word got out on the Internet WWE canceled the angle". Which is stupid. I have heard that the WWE has done this numerous times, so they can swerve the Internets, but really, this was a year-long angle sitting right there for them. Now they've squandered the opportunity, and advised Kharma to "to clear her head, but that the door was wide open for her to return". I figure she either takes that advice and waits it out or goes to Japan and makes some bread a few tours a year.
The constant misuse of quality Black talent within the WWE is astonishing to me. And it has to end.
Continue ReadingWithout any word of WHY this was done, if you hit the WWE Alumni roster page and hit the letter K, you will see that Kharma's profile has officially been moved. This move would certainly dash any hopes of a return anytime soon, one would think. Or, again, this could be some big ploy. No new info from her twitter or anywhere else as of right now. I'm pulling for this just being a ruse (as I have been since word hit yesterday), but these things have been seen to signal superstars moving on. As per usual, I'll update with more info when I see it. Sad day for fans of Black Rasslers, though.
Continue ReadingTerry Brunk, AKA Sabu, remains in critical condition at Aria Frankford Hospital in Philadelphia after being transported there yesterday after an apparent overdose. While testing is still being done, it still appears that the cause of Sabu’s apparent condition is a volatile mixture of alcohol and some sort of medication. An Advanced Life Support Unit out of Bensalem, PA worked on Brunk for nearly 25 minutes at the hotel prior to transport. We have been told that CPR was NOT needed, but that Brunk was intubated. While he was unresponsive, Brunk did have a weak pulse and was barely breathing on his own. Intubation is quite common for overdose patients and for those who are unresponsive or unconscious during transport.Intubation is simply inserting a tube into the trachea to create an airway which will allow for the use of a ventilator.Upon arrival at Aria Frankford Hospital, Brunk was immediately placed in ICU. He did have a stomach lavage (better known as having your stomach pumped) performed an hour after arriving. Brunk will now be monitored in ICU for at least 24 hours. He could be (and probably will be) monitored even longer. The reason this is done is to ensure that there are no drastic side effects to the toxins that have already been absorbed into the bloodstream prior to being pumped out.The contents of the substance pumped from Brunk’s body have already been sent to the lab for testing. As of 10:14am this morning, Brunk remains in critical condition. His pulse and blood pressure have improved, however he is still using a ventilator to aid in breathing. He remains unresponsive for the most part even though his vital signs have improved. It should be noted that this behavior is normal in overdose patients.
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Sabu has checked himself out of the hospital a little before Noon today. He is telling people that he is “fine”. As we reported this morning, Sabu’s condition had improved over night and his vital signs were much better following a stomach lavage procedure to pump his stomach. As of 10:14am this morning, he was still in the hospital and was being monitored for side effects of a possible overdose. I can’t confirm PWInsider’s report that Sabu has been released, but it seems apparent that Sabu improved enough over night to be able to check himself out of Aria Frankford Hospital. We’ll post more as we receive it.Continue Reading
A rep for the event tells TMZ, "Sabu was found unresponsive in his hotel room earlier today when event staff went to his room to pick him up for tonight's show. Management is currently awaiting results from his doctors to find out what actually happened." The rep continues, "All we know is that he had prior health issues that might have been a contributing factor. We're pulling for him and are very concerned for his health. We wish him the best of luck in his recovery."Who knows. I hate making statements like that, but upon hearing that "Justin Credible was removed from last night's Extreme Reunion event in Philadelphia because of concern about his condition backstage. Credible was found earlier in the evening "slumped over, passed out asleep" in a chair", I can only assume they were in the hotel room, going ham on some reminiscing shit, and shit got too deep too quick. Sabu survived the ECW heyday, and I have no doubt he's used and abused many substances, but for a man who legit ripped his bicep during a barbed wire match and secured it with duct tape - and continued the match - I figured his story would end in a blaze of glory. Not in an allergic reaction to meds or whatever the story is. Keep Sabu in your prayers.I'll keep you believers posted on his status when more news hits.
Report from Gerweck.net:
The Brodus Clay ‘Funkasaurus’ gimmick has been shelved for the time being. We’ve heard from multiple sources who say Vince feels his ring work wasn’t quite where it needed to be for television. A match with Clay vs. Heath Slater was cut from Smackdown two week’s ago after it was taped when the decision was made he needed to work on his ring skills.
What do you guys think about this? Was his in-ring work that bad? I mean, he was there for the joke and the squash - were they expecting stellar mat skills? Why do I just have a bad feeling about this? Word has been that WWE gave Mark Henry Clay's initial idea for the #HallOfPain, and it took a while for them to finally re-debut Brodus. Hopefully he comes back and can get back in the mix, or at least continue this character for the time being. I was enjoying it, as were mad fans. And from what I'm seeing, people are not happy with this news. Time will tell.
